What tropical fish would you recommend for me?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1

I have just got a 30 litre tank, filter and heater as i plan on getting some tropical fish, I have been researching online what would be best for me to get and how many, cleaners etc? From personal experience could you tell me what you would recommend for a beginner ?? Also what are the best cleaners to get and would 1 be sufficient for my tank? I would like some colour in my tank :-) Many Thanks for any answers x
(I also have a lighting system)

I suggest a betta and a few snails. Thats almost 8 gallons to us in usa.
Some people keep cory cats with their betta, but i’m not too sure if you should do that. I dont suggest it.

I have the same size tank and in it are
    6 guppies
    2 angel fish
    4 hatchets
as for fish that help clean the tank
2 plocostumus (fish that have suction mouths)
    8 ghost shrimp

    30 litres = 6 gallons.

No cleaners, they need at least 30 gallons for the small ones of 4 inches that get no bigger.
Any thing bigger than that, needs huge tanks of 70 gallons plus.

Most fish are schooling fish, so if you were thinking of putting 6 pretty guppies in 6 gallons,
that would be a death trap. Fish need room to swim and not be in a bowl /tank that is
    full of ammonia.

All that can live in the 6 gallons is 1 beta fish and maybe 1 apple snail NOTHING ELSE.

You must cycle the tank first to grow good bacteria in the filter media which is needed
to break down waste poo/wee and rotten excess food.
This takes 6-8 weeks. It cannot be ignored or hurried, otherwise your fish will die.

Get a 30 gallon tank and you have more space to put in more choices.

Snails and so called cleaners/ plecos /catfish are not there to keep the tank clean.
They will eat algae, and excess food, but you will still need to do your weekly
water changes of no more than 20 percent and always adding dechlorinator first
to the new tank set up BEFORE you put the fish in. It works instantly. No need to
    have buckets standing around.
When you replace 20 percent of the tank water, always add the declorinator
either directly in the tank or into the bowl of water you are using.

To clean the inside of the tank you need a syphon/gravel cleaner. Use this when
doing water changes. It sucks up the gunk and goes straight into the bucket.

Also the water you replace should be warm, as close as possible to the right temperature
for the fish, otherwise fish will catch cold, stress/shock and die.

Make sure that your tank is heated and at the right temperature when before you add the fish
after the cycling process. Do not buy a fish until the cycling is complete. Not right to keep them
in bad water conditions, they will die.

Well , i keep 3 platies and 1 swordtail and a pleco ( moving it when it grows ) right now . When I started fish keeping was 24/9/10 , and as u can see i cycle with fish too ( my platies and swordtail ) . And the cycle is now over , but they are living happily together . Although i know my tank is already overstocked, but who knows ? my fish are living happily thought sometimes they chase each other around and this is common for male to chase females everywhere . And my tank is 26L almost similar to urs of course .

And the fish i would recommend u to get are cute little livebearers , but u must be aware that your gonna see lots of them after 1 month as they breed alot and monthly . Examples of livebearers are

    Guppy
    Platies
    Swordtail
    Mollies

But i dnt think swordtails and mollies are suitable for the tank that small , cause it will grow very long sooner . So i suggest keeping a nice tank of guppys / platies . The ratio of male to female are 1:2 .
Keep in mind that if you dont want any fry , get all females , to know whether it is male or female .

Male has a sharp looking thing near the anal fin whereas female has a round and open that looks like flag . You will notice it , its quite obvious to spot it . As for cleaners i dont get what you mean , but as usual people always get gravel cleaners to clean their gravel , some magnet brush to wipe the wall of the aquarium and for some place u need heater and some u dont it depends . And do more research on the fish your getting . And remember to always cycle your tank , you can cycle it using fish or without fish , you can find more information on the internet .

And make sure you provide your fish a good variety of diet , for platies and maybe other livebearers they need more vege in their diet . So you could provide them some bloodworms / brine shrimp etc as treats . And feed your fish only what they can eat in 3 minutes .

And make sure you fill your aquarium water with water conditioner to kill the chlorine and other harmful substances that are in your tap water .And make sure you provide good hiding space for your fish so they could get less stress OR you could make your tank lightly planted .

You could also get a Betta and a snail but usually i find betta’s boring and not fun to watch . But if you dont want to overstock your tank because you dont wan to take the risk then get 3 platies / 3 guppies and 1 snail .

I have tropical fish as well. You might want to start with just a few in case your water temperature is wrong or something like that. I have guppies, mollys, swordtails, angelfish, albino catfish and neons. I also have a big goldfish and a fantail. However if you’re getting plants, goldfish may eat the plants but mine seem to be fine. Hope this helps :)

  9. Angelfish says:

robert is overstocked so do not take his advice. i would say get a few livebearers (but not males and females of the same species becuase they breed fast)
    here is one stocking option
    2 guppies (male)
    3 platies (female)
    2 apple snails

    another option is
    1 betta (male or female)
    3 bamboo shrimp
    2 apple snails

I would recommend one betta and one mystery snail, nothing else as it’s a small tank. Betas are hardy but have tons of personality. they are my favorite pet fish! They are also colorful, and if in a healthy environment their colors may appear even brighter!Snails can also clean up any algae. Note: No they do not eat poop. None do ;)

Be sure to set up your tank properly before getting your fish and have it cycled! This is an extremely important step. Here is my channel if you need any help:

I would say guppy’s or betta’s , NO GOLDFISH! they die easily and need up to ten gallons each. Also get your fish from a real pet store NOT WALMART! walmart don’t take care of there fish so don’t trust walmart with there fish. Try to get them from PetSmart or some other store like the PetSuperMarket that where i got my fish :D
